IPEM announces the inaugural Short-Stories and Poetry-Writing Contest!

(maklumat lanjut di http://ipem.wordpress.com)

As we ushered in the New Year, one couldn’t help but notice that the previous year had nonetheless brought us somber news aside from few ones that seemed to bring a little cheer to this already dreary sphere of life that we call home. Perhaps the recently elected President Obama might assist in putting a stop to Islamophobia and terrorism- one can only pray. But with major humanitarian crises sprucing up last year, most notably the grossly asymmetrical Gaza War, one wonders whether world peace and unity are actually viable in this life, and whether the term ‘humane’ is only reserved for beings other than humans, e.g. the humane treatment of animals. Well, what about a humane treatment for fellow humans, for once? With this in mind, we at IPEM hereby announce the inaugural Short-Stories and Poetry-Writing Contest to be held in conjunction with the annual English Week, and the core theme is humanity. You can write about anything at all as long as it’s centered on this particular theme. Deadline for submission will be on the 23rd February 2009. Just to help clarify any confusion, the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines humanity as ‘people in general’ and ‘understanding and kindness towards other people’. Therefore anything about people in general i.e. mother, father, siblings, spouse, children, friend(s), teachers, or fellow humans; and anything concerning the act of kindness and understanding toward other people are gladly welcome. So what are waiting for? Unleash the poet and writer in you now! You might want to start writing…who knows you’ll end up as the winner?? =)
